Hey folks- I'm californiabaelaurel over on tumblr. I've belatedly decided to give DW a try. I've lurked quite a bit on DW/LJ, but only been an active fandom participant on tumblr.

I'm a bit socially anxious/confused about how to use this website as an actual posting person, but also excited to engage more deeply with less content and have longer, more involved discussions!

Pretty much I'm just here for due South.

Hi :), just dropping in to say I p much literally only own a DW account to be able to keep up with due south seekrit santa's announcement posts etc (and I also still track the big bang account because I participated once, don't really have the time to do that again though).. other than that I hardly ever/never come here at all let alone actually post things, LJ/DW's blogging styles have never really been my thing alas.. hope you *will* enjoy yourself here though!

Hey there! Dreamwidth is pretty easy to use, like LJ--and there was massive fandom activity on LJ Back In The Day, so it looks intimidating but it's not hard. :)

Oh, thank you! Don't worry, I took a peek around your journal before I subscribed and it looked like something I'd like on my feed anyways. You have interesting thoughts and good book + fic recs!

(somewhat unrelatedly, I've had Leaving Home open in a tab for weeks, waiting for me to write a Really Nice Comment on it. It was so lovely and satisfying to read, even as a WIP.)

Still, even though you aren't currently active in the fandom, there's lots of dS to be found by browsing your older fannish entries and your AO3.

Also, of all the fen I've known, you have one of the most consistently interesting blogs outside of fannish topics as well as inside.

Here's a good tutorial for learning how to insert images using HTML (this will work for comments on DW--when you're posting an entry, you have the option of using the buttons at the top of the post in Rich Text view). You don't need to add all the fancy stuff like the alt, height, and width tags, just the img src="URL for gif image" part is fine.

The biggest thing to pay attention to is that you're actually including the URL for the image, not the page on which the image appears. Sites like GIPHY and Tenor are tricky that way. For example, here's the URL of the page on which a gif appears:
https://giphy.com/gifs/due-south-pilot-episode-paul-gross-NHGWPRbo9p1F6
But here's the actual gif:
https://media.giphy.com/media/NHGWPRbo9p1F6/giphy.gif

To get from one to the other, right-click on the image at the first link and choose "View Image."

So if you want to play around with inserting images in comments, there you go! Hope you have fun with it if you decide to give it a try.
